Guitar was my number one passion in high school and early college.
I dreamt of being in a metalcore band with my best friends.
I dreamt of creating unique and jammy songs that would make a crowd throwdown in a mosh pit.
When my friends stopped playing and moved on with their lives, I met my new best friend, the acoustic guitar.
I sang to her, wrote songs for her, and played a live show or two with her by my side.
There was nothing more helpful for me than learning guitar. That first strum that I played when I was 15 years old was the catalyst for everything creative that I love doing today. Making comics, painting, playing music, writing…it all started with my first guitar. Her name was Eloise, named after a song by Say Anything, who was one of my favorite bands at the time. I will cherish Eloise forever.
Last weekend, I purchased a guitar that I’ve been wanting since the beginning – a Martin acoustic.
It’s perfect. Here’s to making more songs when I’m not making comics.
Thanks for your time,
Nico
This is really sweet! I was never any good at guitar but I liked writing songs with my friends and it definitely pushed and pulled all my other creative passions. Glad to see you've still got Eloise!
Pretty awesome! Can’t wait to hear some Floyd, “wish you were here”.
