We're Ready for Kickstarter
This is it...
It’s been a while since I chimed in with an update, so here ya go!
First of all, I hope that all of you have been enjoying Brew Monsters. We’re about halfway through the story at this point, and it only gets wilder. I really like delivering you new comic story content each week, and I’ve been exploring how I can evolve this method. The thinking cap is on…
West, Not South Update
My graphic novel West, Not South is at 95% completion! The whole print package was completed just before the new year. Since then, I’ve been in constant communication with the print house, emailing back and forth to make sure that the book is all in sync. This is one of those things that you don’t really think about when considering the project timeline – all the communication that you need to put in before printing/proofing actually begins. For the most part, I’ve only been printing single issues at this point in my career, so the hardcover graphic novel game is a bit different. But a good different.
KICKSTARTER
My goal with the book has always been to get the final product in hand before anything else, and this task is within a finger’s length. Now, the next phase, and probably the most stressful… distribution…
Before I go too far in burying the lead, I have created a Kickstarter project page, and you can signup to get notified when the campaign goes live. Here is the link for signup:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/647014749/west-not-south-a-148-pg-hardcover-graphic-novel
This is a HUGE factor in Kickstarter campaigns, so if you have any interest in picking up West, Not South, please please please signup.
The launch date is almost certainly going to be in early to mid-April, barring any setbacks. An awesome part about this project is that the content is 100% complete, whereas many other Kickstarters are only selling you an idea and you’d have to wait a long time before the book is finished. With West, Not South, I’m only waiting for the prints to come in, then we are ready for fulfillment. The book is going to be a 148-page hardcover edition, and I’ll have some awesome support tiers. You’re not going to want to miss it.
Oh, and anything that you can do to spread the word about the signup page is greatly appreciated! As all of you know, making this book has been an incredibly long road, but we FINALLY made it after a year and a half. It feels good, and it’s now time to unleash my vision into the world. I hope that all of you give it a shot!
Here's a quick sketchbook comic that I did recently:
Recommendations
There is a limited series that just wrapped up called The Curse. The Curse is… well… a curse. It’s uneasy, unnerving, anxiety inducing, hilarious, awkward, weird, memorable…
It’s such an odd show. You can probably expect so since it comes out of A24. But even then, it’s so unexpected all the way up until the very last shot. Predictability is something that plagues a lot of recent media, and The Curse is anything but predictable. I couldn’t stop watching the show. It won’t be for everyone, but it’ll certainly be an experience for all who tune in.
I’m finally diving into the work of the alt comics legend, Daniel Clowes. The Eightball collection is a massive brick of comics that collects #1-18 of his iconic series. I’m about a quarter of the way in, and man, it is great comics. It’s funny, deeply personal, and subversive in the best way. It’s an epic anthology from a one-of-a-kind creative voice. You don’t read a lot of comics like this, so I’m making sure to savor each panel. Once I’m done with Eightball, I must check out his latest book, Monica. It has received extremely high praise.
Pro-tip: Do not watch The Curse while reading Eightball. Your mind will explode.
That wraps up this week’s update. Brew Monsters will continue next week!
In case you missed the sign-up link for the West, Not South Kickstarter, I will shamelessly plug it here again:

I appreciate all of your support, and if there’s anything that you can do to help spread the word, that would be amazing. Forewarning, I will likely bug you about it in another post soon. Thank you so much for signing up.
Thanks for you time,
Nico
